The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of PIMs among Lebanese aged outpatients using Beers criteria of 2012.The secondary objectives were to identify the correlates of the PIMs use and to compare the PIMs prevalence rates as per Beers criteria of 20.Several criteria have been designed for the identification of PIMs, including the Beers criteria.The Beers criteria are guidelines based on expert consensus developed through an extensive literature review by recognized experts in geriatric care, clinical pharmacology, and psychopharmacology in the USA.Individual questions regarding PIM criteria were answered using a 5-point Likert scale.The PIM prevalence rate in elderly was analyzed using the National Health Insurance claims data and the Long-term Care Benefit claims data over a 6-month period (from July 2011 to December 2011).In this study, our main goal was to assess the prevalence of PIMs among Lebanese aged outpatients using Beers criteria of 2012.
